About Kirsten Katz - Australian Artist & Designer

I’m an Australian botanical and modern artist. I paint bold, colourful, one-of-a-kind original works — flowers, colour, the natural world — from my studio in Sydney. My paintings are also available as fine art prints, and a range of homewares, stationery and gifts.

Meet the Artist: Kirsten Katz

Hello, I’m Kirsten Katz — an Australian botanical artist known for bold, colourful, expressive paintings of flowers, native flora and the natural world.

I’m largely self-taught. I’ve been creative my whole life, and painting regularly for over 25 years — long before it was ever a business. It began at home in Sydney when my children were young, as something I simply loved to do, and it never stopped.

I paint mainly in acrylics, alongside gouache, watercolour and mixed media. My paintings blend painterly detail with modern form — vibrant, distinctive floral and botanical work that celebrates colour above all else. Every piece starts as a hand-painted original, never AI-generated.

From Passion to Profession

For most of those years I painted purely for myself. In time, I wanted to learn how my art could live in the world in other ways, so I studied textile, surface and print design, a natural extension of the paintings I was already making.

That opened a door. My original artwork began appearing on licensed collections for brands in Australia and overseas, including quilting fabrics with FreeSpirit Fabrics, decorator fabrics, bedding and home decor with Spotlight, wallpaper with Luxewalls, greeting cards with John Sands and Aero Images, and charity Christmas cards with Vevoke. Alongside these, I started creating my own products: designer tea towels, silk scarves, brooches, earrings and Australian gifts, each one carrying the colour and character of an original painting.

But the paintings have always come first, and everything I create and design stems from my original art.
