Australian designer silk scarves by Kirsten Katz — wearable botanical art on luxurious natural silk fabric

Australian Designer Silk Scarves — Wearable Art by Kirsten Katz

There's something about a scarf that feels different to other accessories.

It goes on and comes with you. It sits close. It moves when you move. And when the design on it is something you genuinely love — a colour, a painting, a piece of art that means something to you — it becomes more than just something you wear. It becomes part of how you present yourself to the world.

I'm Kirsten Katz — an Australian artist and surface designer based in Sydney. I've spent years painting botanicals, native flora and abstract works. When I translated these paintings onto silk, something unexpected happened. They became wearable in a way that felt genuinely new — each one carrying the energy and colour of the original artwork into an everyday object.

That's what this collection is. Wearable art. Original paintings, reimagined for the body rather than the wall.

The Fabric

Every scarf in the collection is printed on a luxurious natural silk fabric. It's lightweight, with a beautiful soft drape that falls and moves effortlessly — whether worn loosely around the neck, tied, draped as a shawl, or wrapped around your shoulders on a summer evening.

The scarves measure 65cm x 180cm — a generous size that gives you real versatility in how you wear them.

The Designs

Each design in the collection comes from an original painting. Not a digital design created for the scarf — an actual painting, translated onto fabric. Here's what makes each one distinct.

Protea Magnifica Silk Scarf — Rich, romantic and deeply Australian. Soft pinks, warm corals, dusty mauves. The kind of scarf that anchors an outfit. Pairs beautifully with neutral tones or white. One of the most statement pieces in the range.

Garden of Eden Silk Scarf — The maximalist choice. Bold, dense, fantastical botanical forms in jewel tones. This is the scarf for someone who doesn't want to be quiet about what they love. Immersive, richly detailed and completely one-of-a-kind.

Protea Azure Silk Scarf — For the woman who loves blue. Deep teal, blue-grey, charcoal. The Azure palette is contemporary and considered — it works in every season and sits beautifully in both casual and dressed-up contexts.

Protea Australis Silk Scarf — Bold, vibrant, colour-saturated. Deep pinks and corals, rich and expressive. The design that turns heads. From the same maximalist painting period as the Flowers of Oz collection.

Bush Banksia Silk Scarf — The botanical choice. Warm, earthy, grounded. Australian banksias in ochres, warm greens and natural tones. For someone who loves the Australian bush and wants to carry a little of it with them.

How to Wear Them

The most common question I get is: how do I actually wear this?

The honest answer is: however feels right. These scarves are generous enough to work as a shawl draped over the shoulders. They wrap beautifully around the neck in both winter and summer. They can be tied at the waist as a belt. Worn as a headscarf. Draped over a bag handle.

The fabric is lightweight enough that you're never too warm — which makes them genuinely year-round accessories. Australian summer evenings, cool winter offices, travel — they work across all of it.

Team Them with Wooden Brooches & Earrings

The scarves pair beautifully with our wooden brooches and earrings — many of which are printed with the same original designs. A Protea Magnifica scarf with the matching wooden earrings. A Garden of Eden scarf with the Wild Proteas brooch. The prints coordinate across the accessory range, so it's easy to build a look that feels considered without having to think too hard about it.

It's also one of the reasons these pieces make such a complete gift. A scarf and a pair of earrings, wrapped together — genuinely beautiful, genuinely Australian, genuinely one of a kind.

The Perfect Australian Gift

If you're looking for a gift for a woman who loves art, nature, or Australian design — a silk scarf is one of the most considered and personal things you can give. It's wearable, long-lasting, and genuinely unlike anything mass-produced.

Each scarf comes from an original painting. Each one is printed with care. Each one carries the specific energy of the collection it came from — the romance of Protea Magnifica, the boldness of Garden of Eden, the calm of Azure.
