About the Protea Magnifica Collection

The Protea Magnifica Collection centres on a single original painting — one of the most detailed and intentional works I've made. Painted in 2019 as part of a larger mixed media body of work called A Painted Garden, it began with the extraordinary floral arrangements at an engagement party at the Museum of Contemporary Art in Sydney. The lavish blooms, the candlelight, the deep burgundy and crimson arrangements — that atmosphere became the starting point.

But I didn't paint what I saw. I painted what I wanted to feel. I moved away from realistic colour entirely and worked instead in mauves, soft pinks, purples and deep greens — colours that gave the proteas a sense of drama and luxury that natural colour alone couldn't achieve. The result is something that sits differently to my other collections. More maximal. More atmospheric. Made for interiors that want floral elegance without brightness — something rich and considered rather than immediate.

Where Flowers of Oz is energetic and expressive, Protea Magnifica is quieter and deeper. Fewer flowers. Bigger blooms. More shadow and depth in the palette. It's the collection for someone who wants art that feels genuinely luxe.
